Day 28 July 10 2010

We started the day off with a trip to Wal-Mart the first one we have seen in quite a number of days. We then went to the Farmers Market, but by the time we got there they had already sold out of a lot the vegetables. More crafts and such left. We drove down to the famous Nye Beach and it was cold and windy to us but there were people swimming. Then on to Yaquina Head light house. This had the most fantastic view and the strongest winds. There was a formation similar to the blow holes in Hawaii and the black sand. There had been volcanic eruption many many years ago. It was a beautiful view but could hardly hold camera still to shoot it. We could see many birds nesting on the rocks and also a fair share of Harbor seals, but no whales. The Quarry Cove we went to next is the only man made cove to help protect the marine life. Then on to another lighthouse called Yaquina Bay the house is actually part of the lighthouse itself. Had all the furnishings still in it. Rope beds and all. Our last stop of the day was the Oregon Coast Aquarium. It was neat to see up close some things, but liked seeing everything in natural settings more. It was great when we came out of the Aquarium there was an Osprey sitting on a nest and then we went back to camp. Oh yes did you like the tsumani warnings all around? George was a little bundled up at the beach LOL

The bridge from our campsite to Waldport OR.
City Hall in Newport OR.
We went to the farmers market today.
The to NYE Beach.
A sign of comfort at the beach.
The beach.
It was Cold and Windy here.
It's hard to believe that people really enjoy going in the water here.
Yaquina Head entrance.
What a view from here. Notice the Black Sand?
A closer look.
The Harbor Seals live here, for real.
A long way down.
Mounds with hundreds of birds.
A close up view.
More rocks in the ocean for birds and seals.
Another look.
Can you spot the seals?
I'll get closer for you.
And closer.
Welcome to the lighthouse.
Here it is.
Information.
and more.
Do you see the Star Fish ?
A good sign, a thing to remember.
They really do stay here all year long.
We thought this was interesting.
This is all man made.
Nice cove in the rocks at the water level.
Pat is looking for a whale.
people on the beach.
Another lighhouse.
Here it is. It is also the house where the keeper lived with his family.
Pat going up to the top.
But they had it blocked off.
Some Oregon History for you.
The bridge going south from Newport OR. on U.S. 101
A very Historic Bridge it is.
The Oregon Coast Aquarium, everyone told us it is a must see.
Here I am.
Wood carving.
Some of the fish here.
All kinds.
Here are some Jelly Fish. This could be a great screen saver.
A couple of seals.
They also like to show off a bit.
Passages of the Deep.
The fish are on top of us now.
Another one showing off.
This seal just wanted to roll up into a ball for me.
This is NOT an Eagle. We thought it was at first.
Then the wood carver.
Here are some bears he has done.
