Sorry for the delay in getting this out. This took place a couple Saturdays ago.
This is a New location for the Fallen Warriors Memorial Art Gallery that had its grand opening today and there were several Veterans and dignitaries in attendance. The Patriot Guard was in full force and also our active Military were here also.
There is not a charge for viewing but a donation would be accepted.
Ken Pridgeon started the Gallery in Baytown with a single portrait of a Baytown soldier that lost his life while serving his country. Ken never had any formal portrait painting classes and just picked up a brush and started painting portraits. He began painting while serving in the Air force and then painted billboards after leaving the service.
He started getting request from other families to do a portrait of ones they had lost. They were from the great state of Texas, however, he has expanded his mission to include fallen heroes who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, and lived across the United States of America.
He does all this without charging the families. He works off of donations made to him. He retains the original and presents a copy to the family.
The gallery is right down the way from the Fallen Warriors Memorial Park, The park was made possible by the hard work of Cheryl Whitfield, president of the National Memorial Ladies, and her volunteers. She was instrumental in getting Ken's work moved.
We also met Jim Conley, president of Operation Lone Star, Texans supporting our Troops. He is in charge of all the Flag ceremonies at the Fallen Warrior Memorial park.
This is a must see for all. It makes you realize the sacrifices these men and women have made for us to be able to do the things we do.
We met a family from New Braunfels, Texas they had lost a son in action and Ken had painted a portrait of him and next to him is his good friend from high school that also lost his life in action. Here they are next to each other still. They were in separate incidents. We talked with the family and their other son was just deployed the day before they came for the grand opening of the gallery. His name is Nicholas, and we ask for prayers for him and all our military serving overseas and state side.
We also met a lady from the Conroe area and she helps with veterans in that area and helped to plan some of the trips to Washington D.C. for WWII veterans.
His heart is as big as his passion. (God Bless Ken)
