YAH Trip August 7 2014 Schulenburg TX

Today we left the church at about 7:15 AM on our trip to The Churches in Fayette County Texas. We met up with our tour guide Mrs. Cathy Chaloupka at Franks Restaurant in Schulenburg ,Texas. What a talker she was, she really knew her history of the area. We toured her home church in Dubina, which means oak grove of trees, the architecture of these early churches is just awesome. It was built in 1877 and then the hurricane of 1909 leveled the church except for the church crucifix, chandelier, nativity and the steeple..
To be classified as a painted church, they must have goldleaf, tiffany lamp, marbleizing, vines, roses.
We left this church and then went to see St. Mary Catholic Church. It is a larger church and made of Brick. Again the architecture is just amazing. all these churches take care of their own churches from the members, anything from keeping the grounds to the cleaning inside.
we had lunch at Frank's in Schulenburg. Visited their gift shop and then we were off to our next tour.
We also visited the Stanzel model Aircraft Museum in Schulenburg. For more info on the museum go to their web site. www.stanzelmuseum.org . Some of you may have had one or more of these, airplane kits growing up.
They had a drawing for one of their cookbooks and our host for this trip, Sheila Romsland, won it. Maybe she will try one of the recipes for our Young at Heart gathering later this month.
We stopped at McDonald's on our way home for ice cream. We all enjoyed it but not the heat to sit outside.
Our Driver Tom did a great job. Thanks to him and our host Bob and Sheila Romsland, Doug and Helen Wehring.
See you all soon. Safe Travels and God bless.

Our Harris County Bus for today's trip.
Doug doing his hosting chores.
First stop was McDonalds in Sealy Tx for coffee and a snack.

A new Buc-ees sign on the way to Schulenburg.

Our guide for today. Introduces herself to us.
Only for a brief time was she not telling us some history of the area..

This angel is a memorial to a member of the church that was murdered by the train killer a few years back. HE rode the trains jumped off and killed women and then went on. Her name was Josephine.

Painting is called Marbleizing, the columns were painted to look like marble.

Men's room at the church.
The old general store.

We stopped again on the way home in Sealy Tx only to find out the Ice cream machine was broken so we went next door to Sonic and had some.
