YAH Trip to Crockett Texas Jan 7 2014

We got off to a record cold temperature this morning. There is so much history in Texas and we are seeing more and more thanks to our YAH trips. even with very frigid temps. Some of the brave ventured out for our Young At Heart trip to Crockett, Texas. We arrived at the train station depot and museum and found that we were able to partially relive how it use to be.  It was very cold as they cannot afford to keep the museum heated thru the winter so they had turned on some heat but there had not been enough time to do a lot of good.  Now I realize why the women wore so many layers back then, and the men had lots of long johns, I would have also.  We saw a lot of items that brought back memories and also reminded us of how many of these items we still have in some of our homes.  We heard about Davy Crockett and also about president Monroe, whose grand nephew was the builder of the Monroe-Crook House. We had tour guides at the train depot and then one of the ladies was kind enough to tell us of a good place to have lunch.  She joined us and she also took us on a tour of the home. Crockett is located in Houston County which was the first county in the State of Texas.
We had a few cancellations but those who went had a great time and we must once again give credit to our fearsome group of 8 who spend a lot of hours planning and researching our trips.  Without them we would not be able to enjoy the things we do. Thanks again to the following.

Be sure and enlarge this and read all about the house.
Notice the Brick that is inside the wall of this house. Both the exterior walls and the interior walls.
 WOW What a lock.
This key is to the above lock on the door. It was stolen once and recovered.
One steep staircase.

This is a close up picture of the door panels on the above wardrobe.

We hope you enjoyed this trip here as much as we did.
