My Birthday The BIG 80

Well guess people did not tell me what was going to happen on Friday March 1 2019.

I was going on with doing my thing most of the day and when I got back home that evening Pam and her husband Joe were at our house. I did not think too much about this and thought they just stopped by to bring me a card and maybe a small gift. Pat had said earlier that we would go out to eat this evening. Pat said she would take me to Texas Road House for ribs, so was not putting anything together yet about a surprise. Both Pat and Pam kept insisting that I get my shower and clean up so we could go. Looking back now, that is when things started to change.

 I got my shower and cleaned up as requested. Then I was back in the kitchen when someone entered our back door, as always I just said come on in thinking it may be our son Don that lives close. WOW was I wrong, it was our son Mike and his wife Jana from Granbury, Texas. I was shocked as he had called me early to wish me a Happy Birthday and said they were just doing some chores.

Well they agreed to go to El Gallo as they were hungry also. That was a welcome.

We all headed to El Gallo and was I surprised again, when we got there as always the parking lot was full and they were busy. As I entered I was directed into a area and there was our son and other daughter-in-law Patti and the table had the typical balloons, cake and and adjoining booth with several gift bags, I THOUGHT OMG they pulled one on me for sure. Well  that was not the end, next thing I knew was our granddaughter Casey and her husband Ryan and our great grand daughter Caroline arrived. WOW 10 persons showed up to surprise me. They all did a great job as I never had a clue. 👴 

Next was no surprise however, Tomas was assigned as our waiter for the evening. He is our favorite every time we go there.

What a Great B'Day this turned out to be. Most all of the family that could be here, was here. there were some grandchildren that could not be here due to their location. One being in Washington DC, another in Oregon, one in Abilene, Texas, one in Brock, Texas and the other in Washington State.

What a GREAT SURPRISE.

Don't know how Pat was able to keep a secret because she usually spills the beans but not this time.

I was so shocked the next day I took a nap , which I never do. the excitement of all surprising me was a lot but greatly appreciated.

2019 WWW Rally Sulphur La. February

Another rainy Rally in Sulphur La., there were 10 RV's in attendance an we all had a great time. We had 4 cancellations.  there is lot of things to see and do in this area. Some did a little gambling, shopping and checking out places of interest. ( Lots of History in the area)
We did manage to have a couple of good days while we were here.
There was a new grocery store that opened up just down the road from where we where and many of us made quite a few trips. The word got out that they were having 59cent a lb. spiral hams. Seems some of us bought quite a few.
The girls went to the  Madri Gras museum and then to a bistro for some dessert and coffee The guys went to the battleship and starbucks. We enjoyed the museum and Sharon LaCoste was telling us about the times her and Polo took place in the balls and parades. would love to see pics of this. Maybe we can convince them to bring them to the next rally.
We ate our share of cajun food and it was so very good. Hard to pick a favorite place or dish. It was all good and we had a lot of fun.
the puzzle got us this time but saving it for Castroville for our next rally. Speaking of if you haven't signed up you need to before they release the spaces.
We didn't let the rain totally destroy us from having a good time.
Some went to the Bayou Rum Distillery. Seems they came back with some rum after sampling.
A few went gambling. A few were lucky and a few not so lucky.
we are having a gathering at A Plus again in July for the first ever night time hot air balloon festival held in Lake Charles. we only have 2 spots left of the 16 that we were offered. This IS NOT A PLANNED RALLY, IT IS JUST A GATHERING OF FRIENDS. We are planning  on having a lot of fun.
Thanks to Troy and Pat Lunsford for hosting and for Damon and Betty Briggs for helping. Damon made some great gravy for our breakfast. Thanks to all.
We played some new games, thanks to Pat Turney.
We had a surprise birthday party for Bonnye Schaefer, thanks to Vernon for also having some bloody marys for all. We had a great time with the surprise.

Traffic was bad on I-10 and I-210 Loop around Lake Charles due to bridge construction.

Some of the ladies went to Mardi Gras museum today.

I served on a destroyer just like this one while I was in  the Navy in 1958.

Brings back many memories.
