Day 43 July 25 2010
From Bakersfield CA to Tonopah AZ today. It was a long hot trip but we made it just fine. We sort of changed the route a little and then took a smaller highway to avoid what we could of the grapevine. Many twist and turns and steep grades. It was rough going for George for awhile until we went to the alternate highway. The change proved really nice it was a nice drive and mostly even drive. We did not get to our destination till after 7:00 P.M. again, George wanted to get as far away from the desert as he could so here we are. I have never seen so many Casinos outside Las Vegas before. No wonder Vegas is hurting, all these people have to is go down the street aways and there they are. We did not stop at any. Every state but Texas is loaded with them from mega ones to small ones. We will not travel as late tomorrow. We have been lucky on the rain we have seen it in the distance and could tell it had moved by already. We have yet to be caught in any measureable rain since we left on our trip. It has rained at home which is a good thing.

This is the sunset on the 24th. the last one we will see in California this trip.
Now we are headed out and what do we see but some grape vines.
And this interesting pipe line from the mountain side.
I bet they are getting water for the grapes.
A couple of houses way up on the top.
The Fairgrounds.
Looks like they are building a new horse track here.
All new grandstands.
